How do we really define the “Rotary Experience”?
- Actively participating in the well-being and betterment of our communities
- Working for peace across individuals, groups and nations
- Build bonds of fellowship among our members.
Rotary can be many things to different persons, and it is through our own personal exploration of and journey across the diverse world of Rotary that each of us can find great value, fulfilment and joy.
If Rotary has grown and thrived for 120 years, and if it unites all the world’s languages, cultures and diversities under the common banner and purpose of “Service Above Self”, it is because our organization is not only governed by rules, procedures, and a code of ethics, but I would even say, because it is also grounded by a core philosophy of “doing good…together”. Our strength lies not as individuals, but in our combined efforts as members and clubs where we can accomplish bigger and better projects and activities which improve our communities and the lives of those around us.
But how do we best work together when we are all from different backgrounds and have varied degrees of knowledge, expertise and experience? Our answer lies in ensuring that all of our members are adequately and appropriately exposed to Rotary through learning – this provides the common ground upon which we can then begin to add our individual talents and unite towards a greater purpose.
You truly begin to become a Rotarian as you learn more about Rotary, its principles, its practices, and its impact which inevitably all lead to a rich and happy member and club experience. Learning opportunities are therefore an important and integral factor of the Rotary experience, even more so when you take on a leadership position, whether at club or district levels or beyond. Like many others, District 7030 offers valuable learning opportunities throughout the year for club leaders. These include PELS (President Elect Learning Seminar) – a series of sessions focusing on the essentials of club leadership. However, while PELS is an essential and compulsory program for those who are going to be club presidents and club secretaries, the success of a Rotary year and the growth of the member experience also rest just as much on other club leaders, such as club officers, directors, and committee chairs, all of whom must adequately know their mission and fulfill it in the most active and Rotarian way possible.
To ensure that every aspect of a club is equally addressed and that every member has the knowledge and opportunity for the best possible experience, it is important that all club leaders are fully aware of their roles and responsibilities. Therefore, as part of a comprehensive approach to providing a valuable and impactful learning program, all club leaders – from presidents, to secretaries, to club officers and committee chairs – will have ample opportunities to take part in a variety of offerings throughout the Rotary year and including those which will be held in St Lucia prior to the 2026 District 7030 Conference under the aegis of our District Governor Soraya Warner-Gustave.
